Can Spouses/Partners join fitness programs or come to activities sponsored by YURA? Spouses/Partners are welcome to participate in fitness programs or in any other activities which are sponsored by YURA.

If a retiree is deceased can the spouse or partner maintain his/her membership?
If a retiree is deceased the spouse/partner is welcome to add their name to the list of YURA members, but they must inform the YURA office that they wish to keep the membership. If the deceased has not completed the year in which the membership was paid for, the spouse can continue to use the privileges. When the membership expires, if the spouse wishes to continue he or she will have to pay the YURA dues in order to maintain membership.

Are retirees or their spouses entitled to the “fee waiver”?
Retirees between the ages of 55 – 60 may be eligible for tuition fee waiver, but must find out the current policy by contacting the Department of Human Resources at 416-736-5005 Ext. 77567 or e-mail: benefits@yorku.ca, in order to obtain the relevant information.

Retirees or their spouses who are 60 years of age or over will receive free tuition, but they must apply to the Admissions Office, where they would be required to fill out the appropriate forms in order to enroll in the desired course(s).

Parking

Where can I park?
Parking is available in designated parking lots at both the Keele and Glendon campuses for members actively enrolled with the York University Retirees Association (YURA). YURA Parking Vouchers will be issued to those actively enrolled on a yearly basis. Parking vouchers can be used in the following parking lots:

Who is eligible for parking vouchers?
All York retirees who have joined YURA, paid their membership dues, and are currently not on Payroll, are entitled to obtain a set of YURA vouchers at no cost. Vouchers will be issued by the Retirement Planning Centre. Members will be issued 12 vouchers per year (Oct 1 – Sept 30). Vouchers will be issued in accordance with the number of months remaining at the time your membership commences. Please note: You are required to return your parking permit and transponder/access card to Parking Services upon your retirement so that they can stop any deductions and end your contract with Parking Services.

How do I use my vouchers?
ON KEELE CAMPUS

York Lanes Parking Garage: Arboretum Parking Garage: Student Services Parking Garage,

Upon entry press the blue button to obtain an entry ticket. When you are ready to exit, proceed to the exit gate and see the Attendant at the kiosk. Give your entry ticket and your YURA voucher to the attendant and they will raise the gate arm and let you out. Please remember that YURA vouchers are not pre-programmed to work in the Quick Pay machines. (An emergency press button at the exit gate contacts a help source if the attendant is absent)

ON GLENDON CAMPUS

Glendon campus consists of the upper and lower lots. The majority of YURA members use the upper lot as it is the closest to the buildings at Glendon.

Lot A & B (Upper Lots)

Upon entry press the blue button to obtain an entry ticket. Drive to the Glendon Parking Services located in the Greenhouse where you can exchange your YURA voucher for a Glendon Upper Lot voucher. When you are ready to exit, give your Glendon voucher to the attendant at the kiosk and he will raise the gate arm to let you out.

Lot F & G (Lower Lots)

Upon entry press the blue button to obtain an entry ticket. Drive to the Glendon Parking Services located in the Greenhouse where you can exchange your YURA voucher for a Glendon Lower Lot voucher. Before going down to the lower lot, you have to stop at the machine at the top of the hill to exchange your entry ticket. When you are ready to exit, proceed to the Quick Pay Station and insert your exchanged ticket obtained from top of the hill. The machine will then ask you to make your payment or to insert you discount coupon. Your discount coupon is your voucher that you received from the Glendon Parking Services. The machine will then dispense an exit ticket. Take this ticket to the lower lot exit, place into the machine and the gate will open.

What happens if I get a parking ticket?
If you park in an area where your YURA vouchers are not valid you will be subject to receiving a parking citation, and you will be ticketed by the Parking Enforcement staff. If you receive a parking citation you will be responsible for paying this fine. The YURA office will not be responsible for paying parking citations for individuals who are parked illegally. Payments can be made in person at Parking Services Office, by mail, or by calling 416-736-5707 if paying with a credit card.
